General Questions

Ebony Vision is a community-based nonprofit dedicated to uplifting and empowering the community through mentorship, literacy initiatives, cultural celebration, and community engagement. Our programs create opportunities for connection, learning, leadership development, and cultural pride for youth, families, and the broader community.

Yes. Many of Ebony Vision’s programs and events are offered free of charge to ensure they are accessible to the community. This is made possible through the generosity of donors, volunteers, community partners, and sponsors who believe in our mission.

You can volunteer by completing the Volunteer Interest Form. Opportunities may include mentoring youth, assisting with events, supporting the Ebony Vision Lending Library, helping with literacy outreach, or contributing professional skills to support our programs.

Yes. Ebony Vision values collaboration and regularly partners with schools, community organizations, and local businesses to expand opportunities for youth and families. Volunteer Questions

Volunteers support Ebony Vision in a variety of ways, including youth mentorship, event support, literacy outreach through our Play, Read, and Belong program, library assistance, and helping with community programming and special events.

Not necessarily. While experience working with youth can be helpful, we welcome volunteers from many backgrounds. What matters most is a commitment to supporting young people, being a positive role model, and being willing to learn.

Yes. All volunteers are required to complete a background check to ensure the safety and well-being of participants. Anyone with a history of abuse is prohibited from working with youth.

Volunteers receive guidance and orientation related to their role, including expectations, program goals, and best practices for working respectfully and positively within the community. Additional support and resources may be provided depending on the volunteer role.

Yes. The safety and well-being of participants is a priority for Ebony Vision. Volunteers and mentors working directly with youth undergo mandatory background checks, and programs are designed to provide supportive and respectful environments.

That’s completely normal. Many young people feel nervous when trying something new. Our mentors and volunteers work to create welcoming and supportive environments where youth can participate at their own pace and build confidence over time.

Progress is measured through participation, engagement, and the development of skills such as confidence, leadership, and community involvement. Feedback from participants, families, volunteers, and partners also helps us evaluate and strengthen our programs.
